OWN THE GREY
A podcast about HEALTHY AGING in body, mind and spirit.
For 50+, baby boomers, and seniors who don't fit into the current 'aging person' image.
It's for men and women who are not satisfied with becoming invisible, and for anyone who wants to enjoy vibrant later years.
Hosted and produced by Debra Jones RM, her mission is to change negative attitudes towards aging and reinstate the reverence it deserves.
Why this podcast exists
The Background Story
When I was approaching age 50, I searched for role models to guide me into the second chapter. I found barely a handful, such as Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Helen Mirren.
MODERN ELDERS are not like the former elders in that we have zest for life, and passion for adventure and exploration. We are not content to spend all our days in a rocking chair on the porch. We are active and social. We don’t feel old (although our bodies sometimes do.) We have a youthful mindset, believe that the best is yet to come, and we want to get the most out of life.
Our society tells us that aging is undesirable. Why? As soon as we're born, we're aging. At OWN THE GREY, we believe that our age should be worn as a medal of honour. As we get older, we gain the power of perspective and WISDOM; an asset gained only by age.
Let's change the conversation and set new, healthy, POSITIVE attitudes, and eliminate outdated stigmas.
At OWN THE GREY, we uncover the hidden wisdom from the MODERN ELDERS of society so that ALL ages can be inspired by, and benefit from their stories.
'Own The Grey' refers to not feeling that we have to dye our hair to look younger for society's sake. I used to pull out the grey hairs until I began the podcast. Now, I own my grey!
"It took me a long time to realize we are not meant to be perfect; we're meant to be whole." - Jane Fonda
"Your 40s are good. Your 50s are great. Your 60s are fab. And 70 is f*@king awesome!"
- Helen Mirren
"I gained another pound today, but I think it's a pound of knowledge."
- Lily Tomlin
